What are some things that one can do to have nice facial skin? I’m talking products, skin care, practices, shaving often, diet, how often, when to do what, etc. Any little tricks?
Some things I know:
1) Don’t pop pimples to avoid scarring
2) Someone said to wash your face after eating greasy food (not sure how valid that is)
I guess since you mentioned shaving, that you’re a guy, so you can be a bit more lax than a woman and still have nice skin, as you don’t, I assume, wear makeup. A good cleanser is the best place to start, and it’s best to cleanse your skin twice a day, but once will suffice. Jurlique makes great cleansers, but a) they are $40 per bottle (though they last forever) and b) you might feel girly using them.
For shaving cream, I would recommend Peter Thomas Roth’s Modern Classic Shave Cream. There’s nothing more gentle on skin, ever. If you have very thick stubble, a pre-shave oil could help as well. Anthony For Men makes a very good one. Fusion razors are great, but pricey. Men are supposed to shave with the grain, not against it, slowly, and preferably every other day. If you need a closer shave, they say to do the final stroke sideways to the grain (as in, not against it, or with it, but between the two).
It’s good to exfoliate once a week or so. You can add table salt to your cleanser and scrub your face. Don’t rub too vigorously, basically massage it over your skin for a bit. Skin loves salt and it will be very soft and glowing afterward. Try it at night the first time, just in case your skin is reddish after (I only say this because I wouldn’t know if you have extremely sensitive skin).
You should not pop your pimples, and if there’s grease on your face, yes, it’s a good idea to wash it.
A light moisturizer might be needed if your skin is dry. Clinique Moisture Surge moisture gel is great, it’s very light, moisturizes well, is gentle, and a jar will last you a long time (several months) but is $45 or so.
As far as drugstore brands go, I’m really not sure, as I don’t use them, but I do know that you would be better off buying products made for women than products made for men, as far as cleansers and moisturizers go. Men’s products tend not to be as good, or as gentle.
Change your pillowcase at least once a week.
If you use greasy stuff in your hair, it would be a good idea to wash your hair before you go to bed.
Diet, well, as long as it’s not horrible, it honestly doesn’t make a huge difference either way, at least in my personal experience.
